114. 육조혜능  Sixth Patriarch Huineng                           

 

육조혜능

원인없는 결과없네  There is no result without a cause
아무것도 만들지마  Do not create anything

어느땐가 두승려가  One time, two monks
공중에서 펄럭이는  Watching a fluttering flag in the air
깃발보며 논쟁하네  Argued while looking at the flag
깃발들이 움직인다  "The flag is moving"
아니라네 바람이네  "No, it is the wind"
움직인것 논쟁하네  Debated what was moving
이를들은 육조대사  Hearing this, the Sixth Patriarch said
움직임은 깃발또한  The movement is neither the flag
바람또한 아니라오  Nor the wind
그대들의 마음이오  It is your minds

그때부터 선승들의  From then on, Zen monks
마음들을 자극해서  Were stimulated in their minds
물음들이 생겨났네  Questions arose
어떤것이 삶들인가  What is life?
무엇들이 죽음인가  What is death?
무엇들이 마음인가  What is the mind?
이런문제 공안되어  These questions became koans
참구수행 활용하니  Used for meditative practice
화두참선 시초이라  This was the beginning of Hua Tou meditation
